SylcTM has been specially formulated to remove stain and maximize patient comfort. Please read this guide carefully before using SylcTM.
Before using SylcTM
  • It is important to empty any remaining prophy powder from the delivery system chamber and flush the air polishing line prior to using Sylc.
  • Pour Sylc powder into the delivery system (chamber) at the maximum level recommended by equipment manufacturer.
  • We recommend that Sylc be applied at an air pressure range 40-46 psi or approximately 2.8-3.2 bar. Equipment should be set to a minimum powder flow and powder uptake. Note: Tip lifetime will be optimized when working no higher than the recommended operating pressure.
  • Ensure your powder setting located on top of the powder reservoir/bowl is set accordingly (L, M, H). If you do not have this setting, it may be an adjustment located on the front of your equipment.
  • Ensure your water setting is appropriate for use with Sylc powder. You may need to adjust this setting to achieve the right mixture of powder to water consistency.
  • If you are using a handheld device (connection through a low or high speed adapter), the air pressure setting recommendation is 40 psi or 2.8 bar. Please review your equipment guide for additional information.
  • Empty reservoir/bowl that contains your current prophy powder (i.e. sodium bicarbonate).
  • In your sink, purge the AP line to remove any remaining powder (i.e. sodium bicarbonate).
  • Fill reservoir/bowl with at least 4 Sylc sachets or until the bowl is full, as recommended by the equipment manufacturer. Handheld devices will require 2 or 3 sachets, please review your equipment guide.
  • Lightly shake the reservoir/bowl to loosen powder. You may have small remnants of your other powder left in the reservoir/bowl, please purge your equipment.
The SylcTM Test
We recommend using a penny so that you can see the difference between sodium bicarbonate vs. Sylc. More importantly, what to expect when you are applying Sylc on patients' teeth.
  1. Test sodium bicarbonate on the penny, you will notice a fine line of powder, plus more aerosol. Empty reservoir/bowl, purge line and fill with Sylc powder. You may experience remnants of sodium bicarbonate or other powder.
  2. Test Sylc on the penny, you will notice a thicker line (more therapeutic powder coverage per tooth), plus less aerosol! This is achieved because Sylc is a spherical, denser particle than sodium bicarbonate.
